Transient Neonatal Pustular Melanosis

TNPM has caused the pustules seen on the forehead of this newborn. They can often be confused with herpes simplex, but usually can be distinguished on clinical grounds. Intrauterinely acquired herpes infection can present with vesicles and pustules at birth, but most of these infants have intrauterine growth retardation and microcephaly. Perinatally acquired herpes infection usually does not present with vesicles until day of life 5 - 17.
