DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Public Health Communications Collaborative, “on-demand” drop in course will help you build the knowledge, ethical grounding, and practical skills public health communicators need to integrate AI into communication workflows in ways that strengthen quality, equity, and public trust.\nWhat You’ll Learn\nBy the end of the course, you will be able to:\n\nExplain how AI already mediates public health communications, including how platforms, search, and generative tools shape reach, interpretation, and trust, regardless of whether health departments and community-based organizations actively use AI.\nDecide when AI should and should not be used for specific public health communications tasks by applying the TRAPP framework (Transparency, Risk, Approval, Privacy, Precedent).\nIntegrate AI selectively into the public health communications workflow while clearly identifying which decisions, judgments, and responsibilities must remain human.\nEvaluate and verify AI-supported communication products for accuracy, equity, accessibility, legal/policy compliance, and transparency before public release using a five-stage systematic process.\nApply an equity lens to AI-supported communication decisions by systematically asking: Who benefits? Who decides? Who’s missing? Who pays the cost?\nCommunicate and justify AI use decisions to leadership, colleagues, and community members using clear safeguards, verification practices, and transparency language.\nBuild governance systems that sustain responsible AI practice over time, ensuring consistency as the technology evolves, when deadlines tighten, staff change, and pressure mounts.\n\nWhat participants should walk away able to say: “I know when AI is appropriate, what must stay human, how to verify AI-supported work, how to explain my decisions to leadership and community, and how to adapt as the technology evolves.”\nYou can learn more and sign up for the course HERE.\n
