Comprehensive Support for Afghan Combat Survivors in Washington
The SASIC program is a collaborative initiative dedicated to providing holistic and culturally responsive services to Afghan individuals and families who have experienced combat-related trauma. This program ensures that survivors receive the care, resources, and opportunities they need to heal and rebuild their lives.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support Afghan survivors and their families through trauma-informed, strengths-based services that foster healing, resilience, and community connection. Over a three-year grant period, SASIC aims to serve 375 clients across five counties in Western Washington: King, Pierce, Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom.
Why This Program Matters
The fall of Kabul in 2021 led to the mass displacement of Afghan individuals and families, many of whom fled in search of safety and stability. SASIC was established in response to this crisis, ensuring that those impacted receive the care, support, and opportunities necessary to build a secure future in the United States.
Who We Serve
SASIC aids Afghan individuals and families who resettled in the U.S. following the fall of Kabul in 2021. The program is specifically designed to address the needs of those who have experienced trauma due to conflict and displacement.
What We Offer
SASIC provides comprehensive, trauma-informed and culturally competent case management and support in Dari and Pashto, ensuring accessible and culturally sensitive services, including:
- Medical care and referrals to ensure physical well-being
- Emotional and mental health support, including trauma-informed counseling
- Psychosocial activities and support groups to foster resilience
- Employment and housing assistance for long-term stability
We serve as a bridge to stability, empowerment, and healing, ensuring that Afghan survivors and their families receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives.
Our Partners
SASIC is a collaborative effort led by Harborview Medical Center (HMC), HealthPoint, the Muslim Association of Puget Sound Muslim Community Resource Center (MAPS-MCRC), Boston Children’s Hospital, and Harvard University, in partnership with Afghan community-based organizations. Together, we are committed to delivering compassionate care and essential resources.
